As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

In April, Our Little Book Keepers were running a project, to collect and distribute books to the rural areas in Malaysia. AlhumduliLlah it's SO wonderful to see the children receive the books.
Here are a few follow-up pictures of where the books you donated went.

Excitement over the books.

Our little creative friend! Masha'Allah tabarak'Allah.

May Allah reward all those involved with the very best in both worlds. Ameen.

This project is still on going - so you are welcome to send more books. For details please check their facebook page at: Our Little Book Keepers

Iron Freak
Wednesday, July 25, 2012
As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

I finally got around to making an ironing board cover! Yaaay... it desperately needed it!
This is a mini ironing board, that I use mainly for sewing.

.... I had to add it: "Iron Freak" ... anyone who really knows me, knows I heart bodybuilding  *cheesy grin* ..might just motivate me to drop the sewing and stay in the gym huh...

Uh huh..it really is very bright, makes the room look all happy.

I followed the tutorial found here: Sweet Verbana
She did an awesome job with the instructions.

....now to work on the big ironing board!

If anyone else is working on any projects, let me know... so I can come visit your page.

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

Earlier I mentioned I was working on a crochet project... here it is!
They turned out better than I expected, alhumduliLlah and I had a blast making them.
I'm still not sure whether to sell them or keep them for my niece.

I absolutely LOVE mixed medium (only realized that recently). The prayer mats are made with fabric, paint, and yarn.

This is how big they actually are. Little Fatimah holding them.

Believe it or not, I got some direction from this book: Creepy Cute Crochet.
Book review:

It a wonderful book!
There is a lot a really love about it:
- the 'creatures' are very cute
- there is actually a variety to make, from ninjas and robots, to skeletons and zombies
- they all pretty much use the same basic (head, body) pattern - so you have lots of room to come up with your own creations
- there is both a written pattern and an illustrated pattern
- they are unique - lots of amigurumi style creatures out there, but I personally haven't come across any like these

What YOU might not like:
-  it's NOT for a beginner (this is mentioned in the book), unless you like the challenge
- I wouldn't consider myself a beginner, but even I made up a few things on the way (at least I think I did..haha)
- it's not for very young children IF you decide to use the eyes suggested in the book (safety eyes or felt eyes would be a better option)

Carry
Sunday, July 22, 2012
It's been a while since I participated in Illustration Friday!
This week the theme is "Carry"

I'm not good with Photoshop (I'm an Illustrator fan).. but this was a wonderful opportunity to play around with Photoshop. I used this method: Digital Shading.

I enjoyed the whole process and will most likely use it again.

This is straight from my sketch book.. just thought I'd show you the before and after.

Happy illustrating!

Mowgli Eid Cards
Saturday, July 21, 2012
As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu
Ramadaan Mubarak everyone!

Making Eid cards is (was) the last thing on my Eid to-do list - I didn't want to do any Eid related things during Ramadaan, so happy I got everything completed in time, alhumduliLlah.

So our Eid has a Jungle Book theme to it. I use a theme every Eid, because it makes it easy for me to decorate. The kids are so excited about this years plans! Insha'Allah it all goes well.

Wasn't very much to it. I used this template for Mowgli: Template - but I drew in the face details.

I've never been very good at making cards, and I'm not sure why.. but I did enjoy making these!

May Allah accept your fasts, good deeds and good intentions. Ameen.

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

The summer issue of SAKYNA Magazine features a tutorial done by me, on how to make an Eid Banner! Please check it out, and support the mag.

I've also made an extra banner in fabric for a lucky winner, insha'Allah.

I had so much fun making it, and love how the fabric fades from one color to another.

What you have to do to grab your chance to win: let others know about this giveaway either on your blog, facebook page, pinterest page or tweeter - then leave the link in the comment box.

Tada! ..that's it... Wednesday, July 25th I'll announce the winner.

For those who would like to do the tutorial (in the magazine), I'm including a download here for the lettering:

more..... Qur'an Covers
Saturday, July 07, 2012
As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

I'm still busy sewing, and loving it! I'm also working on a crochet project (doll), which is turning out pretty good so far - will post once done.

So my last Qur'an cover sold (alhumduliLlah), and my sister digs the one I gave her... so I decided to try out more. Insha'Allah I want to make 'kid friendly' ones one of these days - at least two for my nephews.

Tried a different print, and added a different spine. Love how this one looks. I suppose more for guys, but I'd use this one.

I did another one with a blue print on velvet. This is a two tone blue which looks awesome!

And this one is a 'girly' one.

Ramadaan Masjid
Monday, July 02, 2012
As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmtu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

In 2006 (yes my blog is old - so am I).... I did a post on a Ramadaan Surprise box. I had used the tutorial from a site which showed a simple box with sections, and I decided it would look cool as a masjid. Anyway, the tutorial link no longer works and I've had so many requests.. I decided to re-do the whole thing for YOU! - you're welcome *grin*

Here is the PDF file, if for some reason you can not download it, email me and I'll send you a copy.
Ramadaan Surprise Box

It's not a 'simple' craft... so if you decide to make it - you really love your child *cheesy grin*

They are different things you can fill the box with.
This particular box is for three children. One child is only 2 years old, so I’ve put a candy in for her, and she'll learn the numbers (30 days) and it'll give Ramadaan that specialness it deserves.
The other two children will get a candy as well as a piece of paper where they will write their charity
(sadaqa) for the day - in hopes they will learn about giving, and realize how much they can accomplish in a month.

Other options:
- add small (loot bag type) toys
- add a date for each day
- add a short hadith to read each day
- add a short sentence about Ramadaan (i.e: Allah gave us the Qur'an in Ramadaan).

If you have any other ideas, please share.
AND feel free to show me how you're surprise box turned out, I would LOVE to see it.
