As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

I'm officially ALL done drawing out things on my mural. Those that have read my previous posts, know I am working on a mural for the Orphanage in Zambia. It's about 8.5 foot wide - so I have lots to fill. AlhumduliLlah I'm happy with how things are going..now to paint!! But I'll have to put that on hold since I have other work to do.

This is just part of the whole mural to show you the process of things. I've added lots of detail, I prefer to work this way, others add the detail after. (Photograph isn't that clear, sorry)
And as you have noticed, I did stretch the canvas - they'll hang it unstretched like wall paper.

I took this pic for those that have a large surface to work with. I normally never use a grid - but again, because it's large you need to get proportions right. Here is a tip: measure where you'd like the lines and use thread taped at each end at your grid marks. It saves SO much time and cleaner than drawing on lines.

Orphanage in October
Tuesday, October 30, 2012
As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

Thought it was about time I post an update on the orphanage in Zambia.
My brother has moved (back) there to help out with things (May Allah reward him for his good intentions. Ameen) so it's a little easier for me to get updated info and pictures.

The last of the books/sports equipment will insha'Allah be sent in December. It's working out kind of difficult to ship items from this end, so we are hoping to raise funds and purchase things at that end (maybe from South Africa). If anyone has fund raising ideas, please share some with me! or any other ideas to help out the children.

This is a boys orphanage. But girls living near by come by during the day for lessons.

Someone had donated some treat bags for the children for Eid-al-Adha. May Allah reward them. Ameen.

Children busy with class work.

This was taken during meal time.

I've only put a few pictures up here, more can be found on the FaceBook page (Zambian Orphanage).
Please keep them all in your prayers. And if you are able to help with fund raising, feel free to contact me.

Wrapping It Up
Saturday, May 12, 2012
As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

AlhumdulilLlah, the book drive to help out the children at the Makeni orphanage in Zambia (Lusaka) was pretty successful.
We managed to collect:
- 9 large boxes of books in the UK, thanks to SmartArk.
- 12 large boxes of books were collected in the States (Maryland), thanks to Masjid IRHSCA
- 39 boxes of books were collected in Canada (Ontario), thanks to schools like IIT, homeschooling moms and Al-Falah Islamic School

The UK delivery only took two weeks to reach its destination...so we managed to get a video of the children with the books. It's heart-warming to watch..but still doesn't fully capture just how happy and grateful the children (and teachers) are to receive the books.

Please pass on the clip to others, and help up continue to help the orphans.
Jazakum'Allahu khair to all those that helped.

Insha'Allah we have a few up coming projects we are working on. If you can help us out in ANYWAY possible, please let me know.
For the next shipment we'd like to collect:
- Bicycles
- Computers (with flat screen monitors)
- Educational toys
- Board Games
- Story books (not text books, etc.)

Suleman's Pictures
Wednesday, January 18, 2012
As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

Brother Suleman visited the Zambian orphanage about a month ago. Here are a few pictures from his collection I'd like to share with you.

Two students reading/praying to each other.

This is one of the classrooms.... and the teacher.

Few of the students... all smiles, tabarak'Allah.

One of the day students. This orphanage is for boys, but during the day girls come for the school program as this is the only education they can get.

Please be sure to check out the Book Drive Page, if you're interested in helping us build a library for them.
Jazak'Allahu khair.

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

AlhumduliLlah, we are given another opportunity to help others.

This project is to collect much needed books for an orphanage in Zambia, Africa.
It's a project that's very close to my heart because it's located in an area where I grew up, because I love children, and because my uncle is the one running this orphanage. Although he's busy, and not very tech-savvy (okay, no at all), I'm determined to help as much as I can from my end (Canada).. and insha'Allah I hope you'll join me.

Details of project: Collect NEW and USED books.
Islamic and secular books in all subjects. Ages 5 years old to College students.
Suggestions: Arts and Crafts, Trades, Math, Sciences, English, Arabic, Mechanics, Computers (current).

Book drive in YOUR area? The books will be shipped from Capitol Heights, Maryland. If you are able to collect books in your area and ship them either to Maryland (U.S.A), Toronto (Canada), or Zambia (Africa) please let us know, so I we can direct people to the closest contact.
