As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

So I've FINALLY made my sister a Qur'an cover! I've been 'promising' to make her one for a year-or-so. Anyway, it turned out awesome (even if the pictures suck.. it looks so much better in person).. I'm very happy with it, and it was fun to make, so I made two. The silver and black one I'll add to my etsy store, and see how that goes.

I used a velvet fabric on the outside, and lined the whole bag with a satin fabric.

Hand painted 'Iqra' (meaning: Read) on the outside.

Now I need to make two more..for kids, so it'll probably look different.

Monster Collection

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuh

I'm having a little too much fun sewing!
Thought I'd share this project, because I always find it difficult to sew interesting enough things for boys (ages 7 & 8).. but THIS is awesome!..so any of you who are stuck on what to make, give this a try.

Who wouldn't like their own collection of monster beanbags!?!

I've made everything out of canvas...! once upon a time I bought an entire roll hoping I'd be a great artist *grin*... we still working on that 'hope'... bwahaha...

I made 6 different kinds. The beanbag faces are made with felt. I also decided to make a bag to hold everything in, that monster is painted on. I LOVE the bag!!.. and will probably make more for library books etc.

They are 18 altogether. The kids are very happy with them, which makes me happy.

Headache

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

I was SO sure I had done a book review on BELLYACHE: A Delicious Tale! Anyway, looks like I didn't post it..but I'm sharing the sequel to that..because I totally dig it, and the author is such a wonderful person.

Title: HEADACHE: The Hair-Raising Sequel to Bellyache
Author: Crystal Marcos
Available: Amazon
Type: Children (ages 8 and up)

What's it about? As the second book, this continues the tale of a boy (Peter) and his friend (Lina) and their adventures with the candonite people. Who are the Candonites you ask? People made out of candyyyyy...need I say more! (yes me and food are one)... they need to save their town from the horrible Peblars (rotten candy).

Is it worth reading? It's for younger people, obviously...but I really, really enjoyed it!! Given my inner child is still around I was glued to this, and I'd definitely recommend it to others. Its great for both boys and girls because it's packed with action!

Is the book easy to understand? Yes.

Notable pages? Humm... none I can narrow down.

Out of 5: 5

Let me know what you think!
Happy Reading!... oh, and make sure you have snacks near by, you WILL get hungry!

Dino Fatimah

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

I'm still sewing!! ... give me a month, I'm sure I'll get tired of it and find something else to do for a little while.

Anyway.. still going through Ikat's blog.. love, love this blog! This pattern is from her as well. Similar to the panda dress I did in the last post... however this one is the traditional shorts.. with a little dinosaur theme happening. I was trying to be creative..haha.. I'm very happy with the results and so is my niece.

The pattern is for a 3 year old. My niece is 2 years old, but tall for her age (tabarak'Allah).

Fatimah modeling the spikes for you. She was sick that day, but such a good sport about it.

This image is hand painted on. She picked the 'angry' dinosaur.

The back - dino spikes sewn in.

Now to work on my next sewing project *grin*

Wufoo Panda
Sunday, April 01, 2012
As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

I'm finally back to sewing, and thought I'd share something with you.
This is a dress for my niece who adores Kung Fu Panda (but pronounces it wufoo panda). She's 2 years old...(that's the dress size).

The dress pattern is from this site: ikatbag
I absolutely LOVE her blog, and just floored at how talented and creative she is. She's also nice enough to share a lot of her patterns and ideas.

Front of the dress.

Back of the dress. "Love"

Here is the pattern for the pandas. I cut them out in felt and just stitched them on. Simple enough, and I really dig the mix of felt with paint (bamboo)... I'll probably end up doing more using this idea.

Here is the pattern for the bamboo. Check this link for a tutorial: Stenciling
It's worth learning how to do it, I've done stenciling SO many times! I'll share other work I've done in future posts.
Happy sewing! If anyone tries this out, or even just makes the dress .. please share with ME! I love seeing what others are doing.
