Anyone who likes Reese's Pieces will love the Kiss Cookie! It's also very attractive... which makes it great for parties. Note, the dough needs time to chill, so make ahead.
Consider yourself warned; guys seem to be attached to this cookie.. so you may need to find new hiding places.
I'd love to hear from anyone who decides to try it.
Makes 50-60
1/2 cup (4oz/8 tblsp) butter
1/2 cup (4oz/8 tblsp) peanut butter
1/2 cup (4oz/8 tblsp/114g) white sugar
1/2 cup (4oz/8 tblsp/114g) brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 (10oz/284g) cups flour
Hershey's Kisses (or chocolate chips... but it won't taste the same)
Sugar - for rolling cookies in
:: Cream butter, sugars, and peanut butter.
:: Beat in eggs.
:: Sift baking soda, salt and flour and gradually add to creamed mixture.
:: Chill for 1 hour or overnight.
:: Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
:: Roll in sugar.
:: Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Do not flatten.
:: Bake at 375°F (190°C) degrees for 7-9 minutes.
:: Remove from oven. Immediately press one unwrapped Hershey's Kiss (or three chocolate chips) in the center of each cookie.
:: Gently lift from cookie sheet with a spatula and let cool on a wire rack.
:: Say bimillah, and enjoy!
(edited: 03/01/07 Suggestion: I used white/brown swirly chocolate kisses and didn't roll them in sugar, in the batch I made for Eid-ul-Adha, here is how they look. They still taste wonderful but not like Reese's anymore. )

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dear sister Wayfarer,
Oh that is so wonderful!! Masha'Allah. I think that's a great way to build a better relationship with your neighbors.
Every Eid we give a box of cookies to our neighbors on both sides and across.. and just explain that we are celebrating Eid, and some ask a little more about the celebration.

Salaam Girls,
Ooh, those cookies look so good! I gotta go get me some kisses insha'allah, heh.
Quick question for the Muslim cooks out there....what's the deal with vanilla and the alcohol in it? Is it ethyl? Is ethyl mean its ok? Do you use an imitation vanillan flavoring (which I think is nothing like
As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dear sisters,
Jazak'Allah for all the wonderful comments.
Thank you for dropping by 'que sera sera' Eat a cookie for me :)
Muslim Wife, as far as I know vanilla is extracted with alcohol (and it should say it right on the label) Some people still use it because it's very little or apparently burns off when baking.. but I keep away from it. I use an imitation vanilla.. so far from all those I've tried..this one tastes the best! (closest to the real thing) http://www.bedessee.com/00_canada.html
(Note: I purchase it from a store here, and have never ordered it off line.)
Oh, that must be very difficult for him sister Amani. I would think the only substitute would be 1/2 cup butter (making it a total of 1 cup) So it would taste almost like a Melting Moment.. yummy (another delicious cookie)
Let me know how it goes, insha'Allah.

sister amani, could you try almond butter or cashew butter? i'm not sure if those would work because they might be processed in facilties that process peanuts
